Gene scan helps identify cause of inherited blindness

School of Medicine scientists, led by Joseph Corbo, MD, PhD, have scanned the entire genome of mice for genes that help build photoreceptors, the light-sensing cells of the eye. The results already have helped researchers identify the gene that causes a form of retinitis pigmentosa, a type of inherited blindness in humans. FULL STORY

Emergency notification system to be tested Sept. 15

Washington University will test its emergency notification system, WUSTLAlerts, at approximately 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15. For the test, WUSTLAlerts will send e-mails to @wustl.edu addresses, voice messages to campus phones and cell phones and text messages to cell phones. FULL STORY

Brown-bag lunch series begins 15th year

In its 15th year, the “Work, Families and Public Policy” series is a schedule of biweekly Monday brown-bag seminars presented on campus through Dec. 6, giving faculty and graduate students of St. Louis-area universities an array of opportunities to lunch and learn. University-wide blood drives begin Sept. 14

Start the semester off right by doing something good for the community and volunteer to donate blood during the first of four university-wide blood drives to be held this year.
